Instead of Buying, Think About a Luxury Villa Rental in Aspen or Miami

Monday, April 15th, 2013

With high end real estate booming in sought after cities like Aspen or Miami, many might consider getting into the game themselves. Of course, buying real estate, especially in a red hot market, comes with many considerations including location and how much time you’ll be spending in any given city. All of which makes the option of luxury villa rentals increasingly attractive for many who travel often or who are looking for vacation properties rather than more day to day family homes. The advantages of renting rather than owning your very own luxury villa as a vacation getaway are numerous, including getting a property in the best location, as well as receiving five-star service without having to staff a home year round. And when it comes to U.S. markets like Aspen or Miami, not to mention luxury European spots like St. Tropez, the booming luxury market means that prime homes aren’t always available either.

Take the 2013 Coldwell Banker Previews International Luxury Market Report, for instance. This report details sales markets in the United States when it comes to properties over $10 million sold in 2012. Aspen, Colorado was in the third spot after traditional luxury markets New York and Beverly Hills. An article in Luxury Daily outlines the report’s findings, including that the numbers “uncovered that there are a few up-and-coming areas that have not always been considered luxury real estate hubs.” To this end Betty Graham, President of Previews International at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, explains that she was “quite surprised to see Aspen have almost as many high-end sales as Beverly Hills,” a clear indication that the mountain town is as popular as ever with jet setters, but also gaining traction as a wonderful location year round.

All this is definitely good news for the sleepy but decidedly upscale town of Aspen, where according to The Aspen Business Journal, occupancy rates have been on the rise this year. The newspaper states that “occupancy rates at Aspen and Snowmass lodges in March were up 7 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively, compared to last year, according to the latest data. Numbers for April are also positive so far, according to MTRIP, a travel research program that keeps track of stats for mountain destinations. Bookings in Aspen for April are so far up 6.2 percent and they are up 49.8 percent in Snowmass compared to the same month last year, MTRIP reported.” If you’d love to enjoy the beauty of Aspen, but don’t want to deal with ever crowded lodges and resorts–or a red hot real estate market–then renting a luxury villa rental is definitely a great choice.

Not that Aspen is the only real estate market that is booming. Miami too has benefited in the luxury sector from an influx of dollars from Latin Americans eager to soak up the sun and culture in this beautiful city, according to a recent article in The Global Post. ”Miami and its surroundings, according to the latest report on the luxury real estate market by Christie’s, in 2012 burst into the group of the world’s main markets of this type, thanks to the general recovery in demand and low prices,” the article states. “[And] calculations are that Miami at the end of last year had more than 2,000 residences with prices above $1 million, half of what New York has despite the fact that the population of the Miami metropolitan area does not have even one quarter the people of the Big Apple.” Of course, if you’re looking for less of a long term option in amazing Miami then one of the stunning luxury villa rentals and VillaHotels available from Villazzo–with all the comforts of home including gourmet kitchens, expansive bedrooms and baths, pools, and even elegantly appointed indoor and outdoor dining areas–are a great alternative for a getaway this spring or summer.

A Change to Aspen’s Restaurant Scene & Planning Your Winter Luxury Villa Rental Vacation

Aspen is a great place to visit any time of year, but without a doubt the luxury ski resort’s high season is the winter months. If you’re hoping to enjoy a completely comfortable vacation in a luxury villa rental in Aspen then you’ll also want to think about booking now. As people on the restaurant scene ramp up for the start of the 2012-2013 winter and ski season so too will the options of where to stay fill up fast. One such change to the Aspen scene is the new Elk Camp restaurant being opened by the Aspen Skiing Co. (Skico) and slated to be ready by the start of the winter season. Located close to the Elk Camp gondola the new restaurant will be 14,769 square feet and has been designated as the new hub of Snowmass’ summer operations.

The new Elk Club, which has been in the works for the better part of two years and will replace Cafe Suzanne’s, is part of a growing trend that has seen independent ownership of mountain restaurants in Aspen dwindle to just two (Bonnie’s and High Alpine). As Scott Condon of The Aspen Times notes “on-mountain restaurants have become increasingly important for ski-area
operators. Just as ski areas completed replacing old chairlifts with high-speed
models over the past 25 years, they are now replacing lots of old, worn-out
restaurants with grand, new structures.”

The restaurants don’t just look newer, different, shinier, either. The food experience has also changed dramatically from down home American grub like hot dogs and fries to a much more upscale dining experience. According to Skico, the Elk Club’s menu “alludes to northern Italian cuisine” and will have food that focuses on health and freshness, two big trends in high end Aspen restaurants. The new menu will apparently include speciality sandwiches, pizzas, and rotisserie items, as well as salads, soups, fresh pasta, and gourmet desserts. The Elk Club will not just cater to skiing diners, but the size (capacity for 250 in the dining room, 25 at the bar, 150 on the deck, and 90 seats in an an area for ski school kids) will also make it ideal to host events and receptions.

The attention to detail and design on this property really has to be seen to be believed. And while Villazzo luxury villa rentals provide privacy and all the comforts of home, our VillaHotel properties really go above and beyond, combining unbelievable luxury villa rentals with the kind of service and personal touches that far surpasses a traditional five-star hotel.

“V” Villa Silvia: An Asian Vibe Arrives In Aspen

Monday, November 14th, 2011

"V" Villa Silvia - Aspen luxury villa

"V" Villa Silvia - Exterior

Amidst the many lodge-style Aspen luxury villas, “V” Villa Silvia features an Asian design sensibility that makes it stand apart from traditional Aspen aesthetics.

When it comes to luxury destinations like Saint Tropez, Miami Beach, and Aspen, there is usually one architectural and design motif that dominates the luxury villa market there. The “luxury look” of an Aspen villa has always been a rustic charm: stone, wood, exposed beans, vaulted ceilings, and large hearths with roaring fires.

Every once in a while, however, a luxury villa comes along that sheds some new light on traditional designs. In Aspen, that luxury villa is “V” Villa Silvia.

Unlike the many lodge-inspired Aspen luxury villas out there, “V” Villa Silvia features an Asian-inspired look both inside and out that is hard to miss. It’s layout evokes the look of a symmetrical, Japanese-styled furoba, with two large wings on each of the house. Unlike most Aspen villas, which feature a predominance of stone face, “V” Villa Silvia utilizes a predominance of rich, cedar siding, with a flagstone base that completes a wide terrace overlooking the rugged vistas of Aspen.

But while the exterior of “V” Villa Silvia still evokes the general trappings of an Aspen luxury villa, it is the interior that truly departs from the “Aspen ordinary.”

The Hottest Aspen Restaurants for the 2011 Season

Friday, January 21st, 2011
High season in Aspen is moving into full swing, which means the arrival of well-heeled travelers from far and wide who are not only looking to hit the slopes, but to have some fun après ski as well. If you’ve booked a luxury villa rental in Aspen this season–or are thinking of doing so–you’ll likely want to think about where to eat and what to do when you’re not enjoying the great outdoors.
The 2010/2011 season has seen some interesting additions to the Aspen restaurant scene, in addition to the tried and true classics that every traveller to this ski heaven should try at least once.
Casa Tua
If you’ve been to Miami, you’ve likely sampled the wares at Casa Tua’s outpost in that city, which is set up in a gorgeous Mediterranean-style house, circa 1925, that is also home to a member’s only club on the upper level. Aspen’s Casa Tua has opened up in the space that once belonged to Ruth’s Chris and Guido’s, and is a sprawling 5,000 square foot, two-story mix of elegant and Aspen rustic.
The menu has definitely taken a page from the Miami original, and chef Sergio Sigalai’s kitchen will be serving food all day. Some delicious dishes you may want to sample include homemade pastas like Tagliolini with crème fraiche and caviar, a whole Branzino that is deboned at your table, and yummy Wagyu steaks served grilled. Mickey Grendene’s club and eatery will definitely be catering to the after hours crowd as well; if you’re interested in a membership the set up is similar to the Caribou Club, with a choice between short and long term options. 447 East Cooper Avenue, 970-920-7277.
