Calling all film lovers…The 31st Miami International Film Festival is finally underway and there is no better way to celebrate the next ten days of films, food, and fun then by renting a luxury Miami property from Villazzo. The Miami International Film Festival dates back to 1983 and throughout the years it has featured a number of stars including famous actors like Andy Garcia and John Leguizamo, ultimate filmmakers like the Coen Brothers who have been responsible for such creations as The Big Lebowski and No Country For Old Men, and Alfonso Cuaron the director of this year’s Oscar winning film, Gravity. The famous screenwriters, directors, and actors can usually be seen meandering around the pre and after parties, red carpet events, and film debuts. This year’s celebrity guests are said to include Mike Myers, Shirley MacLaine, and John Turturro who is receiving a career achievement award, along with many others.
The first film to premiere this year is Elsa and Fred, which features a slew of award-winning actors including Marcia Gay Harding, Chris Noth, and James Brolin. The after party will take place at the elegant DuPont building, where top-shelf drinks will be served from mock bank-tellers along with various gourmet appetizers in order to commemorate Alfred DuPont owner of the Florida National Bank and Florida East Coast Railway. Also, every afternoon at 4pm filmmakers as well as film enthusiasts, along with writers, producers, and press have the opportunity to walk around the gorgeous Zen-like gardens of The Standard Hotel. Stella Artois, one of the festival’s proud sponsors will provide free suds to mingling artists and film lovers, while bow-tied servers keep everyone plump with trays of innovative hors d’oeuvres.
There are 93 feature films taking place this year covering various genres and subject matters. Movies from all over the world can be seen at six uniquely gorgeous theaters around Miami, among these cinemas are the Olympia Theater, Regal South Beach Cinemas, Tower Theater, Coral Gables Art Cinema, O Cinema, and Miami Beach Cinematheque. The after party locations are all equally elegant and although many have not yet been released to the public there is still time to get yourself into the Area 31 party at the Epic Hotel or the Pyrat Awards Night Party at the National Historic Freedom Tower.
