Where the Biggest Celebrities Go to Vacation

Thursday, September 2nd, 2021

In the short space of 18 months, a lot has changed in the world of travel. Stalwarts like luxury Miami villas continue to hold their appeal, but we’ve also seen an influx of new destinations open up, especially those with plenty of space, or unique backdrops like Venice.

But why do the hard work to find your next vacation, when our favourite A-listers have done it for us!? If you’re looking for the latest trends in five-star vacations, then look no further than where our favourite celebrities have been flocking to this year.

Capri, Italy
With the fanfare around Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s romantic reunion, all eyes were on the Hollywood couple, during their recent travels to Italy. Styling it out on a $130 million super-yacht, they’ve taken to the seas, to tour the local region, including hot spot Capri. They weren’t alone, as Julianne Hough along with Kris Jenner and her beau Corey Gamble were all spotted in Capri in the last month. The luxury villas of Capri are always in demand, but with the recent arrival of ‘Bennifer’ it’s likely that they’ll be getting booked up way in advance for trend-spotting holidaymakers.

Lake Como, Italy
Not far from the dreamy views of Capri, is another jet-set favorite spot: Lake Como.

Home to stunning views, and jaw-dropping luxury villa rentals, it’s no surprise that it remains one of the top destinations for the glitterati. True to form, George Clooney and wife Amal were recently photographed during a visit – the couple are frequent visitors with their own holiday home in the area, which they enjoy with their family.

Nicole Scherzinger is also a fan of the chic Italian destination, sharing an Instagram selfie on a yacht in Lake Como in July, calling it simply a “magical place”

Miami, Florida
It was all eyes on Miami in April, when a flock of celebrities descended on the city, not for the first time this year (the SuperBowl was the first time When the Goodtime Hotel in South Beach opened, Kim Kardashian, David Beckham and Pharrell Williams all rolled up, leaving their luxury Miami villas for the night to party.

Miami is always an A-list hot-spot, proving its credentials once again, when mega-star Kendall Jenner turned up the heat during a visit in June. Spotted hanging off a boat with her friends, Kendall made the most of the gorgeous weather Miami is known for.

Venice, Italy
Known for its fabulous waterways, and a rather famous film festival, Venice was once again open for business, as celebrities from all corners of the globe returned this year. The city of romance proved its credentials when Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry paid a visit in June for a couples bresk.

Igniting further romance, Venice was also the choice of Russell Wilson and Ciara who headed there to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary in recent weeks.

Greece
The stunning cluster of Greek islands always attract a well-heeled crowd, looking to escape the bustle of city life. Justin and Hilary Bieber were amongst the latest celebrity fans visiting the sunny island of Ios, staying in their luxury Greece rental. Meanwhile, actress Kate Hudson enjoyed a family holiday, mostly seen dipping in and out of the aqua blue Mediterranean waters that bring so many tourists every year.

And Hollywood royalty, Lionel Richie and family., enjoyed the stunning scenery of Santorini, for his 72nd Birthday earlier this summer. The volcanic island is popular with families and couples, looking to enjoy rest and relaxation, in its many private luxury villa rentals.

Saint-Tropez, France
The French Riviera always has a strong following with discerning travellers, hence the many St Tropez vacation rentals available in the region.

Hollywood legends Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel were recently spotted amongst its famed cobbled streets. Not too far away, basketball legend Magic Johnson was also vacationing on his private yacht. Whilst A-list model, Bella Hadid, stuck to the popular choice of Cannes for her break.

Five Places to Discover Greek Architecture

Friday, May 28th, 2021

Amidst the mountains, capes, alcoves and beaches that Greece has to offer, there’s stunning architecture to marvel at. Some old, some new – there’s certainly something for everyone.

Whether it’s a day excursion from your Greek villa rental., yacht trip out to sea, or an organized tour, here are five must-visit destinations for appreciating Greek architecture at its best.

Cyprus
With some of the greatest preserved architecture dating back to 900BC and earlier, Cyprus is a fusion of old and new, as seen in its buildings and structures.

The jewel of the Mediterranean, start your whirlwind tour at 9th century Church of Lazarus in Larnaca. If possible, come at night when it’s lit up and gleaning like a beacon in the city skyline, it’s history is equally as impressive.

In stark contrast, another impressive building is The Oval in Limassol. This 16-floor office space is a local landmark, designed to represent a pebble on the Limassol coastline.

Zante
Although Zante has some of the best luxury villa rentals and beaches in the Greek Islands, it also has impressive buildings to view. This includes many aqueducts, a Venetian Castle and Churches includes the Metropolis of Agios Dionysios – the perfect illustration of Greek architecture at its best.

For something more unique head to Navagio Beach. Plunged into the sea and accessible only by boat, here you will find a 40-year old shipwreck, preserved for all to enjoy. Bring your camera, and some flip flops!

Mykonos
For a small island, Mykonos packs an almighty punch when it comes to aesthetically pleasing buildings.

Dotted throughout the island are white-washed houses littering cobbled streets with windmills blowing in the wind. It is very much like stepping inside a postcard of what you imagine the Greek islands to be like.

There are also many state-of-the art Mykonos villas with modern elegant design and views out to sea. Head to Little Venice to enjoy some of these washed up views and cute houses.

Athens
The Greek capital is home to some of the most famous and significant architecture of today and yesteryear.

It would be remiss not to mention the most famous of them all – The Acropolis and Parthenon. Standing atop of a rock since the 5th century, it’s one of the most famous Greek temples, fantastically preserved for generations to enjoy. If you’re interested in neoclassical buildings, there are many private tours you can embark on.

For a more modern approach, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre is aesthetically impressive, that you could easily mistake if for a luxury mansion for rent!

Corfu
If you just want to meander down stone walkways and gawp at the buildings as you walk on by, then Corfu is your island. As well as great food, and a booming hospitality industry, it has architecture that people come from far and wide to enjoy.

Head to the Old Town, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, and must-visit destination for appreciating neoclassical design including the Old and New Fort.

Head to the Hills on Vacation this Summer

Monday, June 29th, 2020

In a post-lockdown world, it’s expected that we’ll all be finding more comfort in nature and the great outdoors. As we learn to reconnect with the world around us, many travellers are looking for luxury villa rentals and private abodes set away from the bustle of the city.

So, whether you’re looking to escape to the snow-capped Alps, seductive hills of Tuscany, or the calm of Ontario, we’ve got a few ideas to help inspire your vacation choice for 2020.

The Peaks of France

Straddling the French-Swiss border, the iconic Alps stretch 1,2000 km across eight countries. A prime European destination for winter ski, it’s also growing in popularity during the summer, when the weather heats up.

Come the warmer months, the popular resort of Courchevel is a serene spot for quiet walks, taking photography, and getting back to nature. Plus, many of the ski gondolas continue to operate throughout the summer months, making it easy to reach its high peaks. Book a luxury chalet and take advantage of all that’s on offer.

Breathtaking Ontario

There’s beauty at every turn, in the Canadian resort of Ontario.

For those in the know, this province has many hidden treats waiting to be discovered. When you find them, luscious lakes and forest woods open up, to create a dramatic and breathtaking backdrop.

Close to the beauty of Erindale Park, Hewick Meadows and The Mississauga Golf and Country Club, lies Villa Oriana. A sprawling vacation home rental located over 17,660 sq ft. From here you can explore the wider region, and all that Ontario has to offer. There’s hiking trails, protected woodland and a number of sandy beaches, for enjoying at your leisure.

Chill in Aspen

Melting away its winter snow, Aspen in the summer is a stunning destination, all thawed out and glistening, ready for a new set of visitors.

For those who love getting back to nature, you can easily lose yourself to the hills, ranges and acres of mountains drawing you in. Take a hike, bike, or water raft – from land to water, there’s so much to enjoy. Complete your stay with a luxury Aspen villa for rent, and invite all the family to stay.

For the ultimate hillside retreat, Villa Justine is perched atop a hill, next to infamous Red Mountain. Offering unrivalled privacy accompanied by jaw-dropping views, it’s a glorious get-away and hillside ‘happy place’ you won’t regret visiting.

Tantalising Tuscany

With a varied ever-changing landscape, Tuscany is a wonderful destination for enjoying all that’s great about Italy. Bask in its glorious countryside, roam the vineyards, and enjoy artisan delights rustled up by local chefs – it’s a truly tantalising calling for all the senses.

Be it the striking architecture of Florence, or the serenity of the Tuscan countryside, there’s much to explore during a visit. When it’s time to head to the hills, the quaint commune of Monte Argentario is an inviting spot.

Enjoy secluded country walks drenched in nature, staying in Porto Santa. This beauty spot is also home to Villa Larissa – an idyllic place for all the family.

The World’s Top Ski Destinations

Thursday, February 27th, 2020

Most of us are looking forward to bright sunshine, warm days, and a piña colada in hand while relaxing by the pool after these cold winter days. Spring is right around the corner, and summer will be quick to follow. With the end of the season quickly approaching, take your ski gear out one last time at the world’s top ski destinations before retiring them until next winter.

Val Thorens, French Alps

France is well-known for many things: delectable wine, five-star shopping, cordon bleu cuisine, and the best ski resort in the world. Val Thorens is the highest ski slope in Europe, standing loud and proud at 10,560 feet at its highest point. The resort usually opens in early November and remains busy until mid-May.

Val Thorens is located in Trois Valllées, literally meaning the three valleys of Les Menuires, Méribel, and Courchevel, where our lovely Villa Rayna will keep your family warm and cozy during your stay. The ski resort offers multiple terrains to choose from, so beginners and experts alike can enjoy their time on the slopes. However, because of Val Thorens’ immense popularity, you might have to wait in line to get your turn!

Ontario, Canada

If you have already enjoyed every ski resort on the mainland multiple times, you can hop on over to our arctic neighbor in Canada. Ontario is cold almost year-round, with temperatures dipping well below zero in the dead of winter. That means there’s plenty of snowfall to set the stage for a ski vacation. The only challenge is choosing your destination, with a diverse pool of breathtaking ski resorts at your disposal.

Start out at Horseshoe Resort, where 28 miles of cross-country ski trails await you. Then make your way to Blue Mountain, which is the biggest resort in Ontario and just a short drive from Toronto. Don’t forget to visit Whistler-Blackcomb, the most popular ski site for enthusiasts far and wide. The best part is that our Villa Oriana is at the heart of every ski trail in Ontario.

Aspen, USA

We would be remiss to list the world’s top ski resorts without mentioning our very own world-renowned ski destination. Aspen, Colorado, is a winter wonderland for ski aficionados and affluent families. Surrounded by miles upon miles of white-capped mountains, Aspen is a sight to behold from the warmth of your very own Aspen vacation rental, Villa Justine.

If you’re skiing in Aspen, you have to do it right. Partaking in the full experience means visiting each mountain in the area: Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain, Highlands, and Snowmass. As the most popular trail, Buttermilk is ideal for those who enjoy being part of a lively crowd. Those who want complete focus practicing their sport should head to the Highlands, where experienced locals are slashing through the trails. Aspen Mountain, better known as Ajax, is located in the heart of Aspen and has the best apres-ski establishments. Finally, if you have nothing but time on your hands, explore the endless terrains (actually, 3,000 acres) that make up Snowmass.

Stay warm in these cold climates with your luxury villa rental from Global Luxury Villas. Contact us today for more information.

Best Sunsets in the World

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020

Few things in the world are quite as beautiful as a bold sunset. With brilliant color palettes and warm rays, you can’t help but stop what you’re doing and pay attention. Sunsets have that effect on everyone. If you’re traveling around the world, don’t miss out on these magical golden moments.

Tuscany, Italy

You may be visiting Tuscany for the rich culture, revolutionary art, luscious wine, and five-star service at Villa Teresa, but you’ll fall in love with their sunsets. Tuscany sunsets bleed every color of the rainbow, and the best place to see them is right off the coast of the Arno river. If you’re taking a snapshot for your Instagram followers, make sure you capture the sun setting over the Ponte Vecchio bridge and surrounding historic buildings.

Ibiza, Spain

When you’re all partied out from Ibiza’s infamous club scene, you can head back to your Cala Conte Villa and relax by watching the mesmerizing Ibiza sunset. Cala Conta is one of the prime locations to watch the sun set over the deep, blue waters because of its Western facing position.

Miami, Florida

You don’t have to travel across the globe to experience some of the world’s best sunsets. In fact, one of them is right in your backyard. Miami sunsets burn brilliant reds and oranges in the hot, summer days. It’s a sight you don’t want to miss. With Villa Lori being five minutes from the beach, you can rest and relax all day, then hit the waves as soon as golden hour starts.

Courchevel, France

There’s no better way to view the sunset than at the top of the world. Located in the French Alps, Villa Layla sits on one of France’s highest mountains, Bellecôte. Surrounded by snowy mountains and cotton candy clouds, you’ll get to see the Courchevel sunset in its full glory with no obstructions standing between you and breathtaking views.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

There are many things to enjoy on the Amalfi Coast: the quaint villages, the fresh foods, and the tranquil golden hours. If you love rising with the sun, Villa Fabiana is an east-facing resort that serves as the perfect location to enjoy breakfast with a view. At the end of the day, you’ll want to take the short trip to Paiano. This charming town faces west, so you have an unabashed view of the sunset burning the horizon.

ARCHITECTURAL STYLES AROUND THE WORLD

Thursday, December 19th, 2019

Like all fine art, architecture has evolved with the surrounding culture and technology over time. What started out as functional buildings in ancient Greece, evolved into dramatic, opulent designs featured in Gothic architecture. After all these years, trends have changed again, with simplicity prevailing in modern engineering. With different parts of the world heavily influenced by different eras of art, it’s worthwhile to visit some of the most celebrated architectural styles across the world.

Baroque

Baroque architecture was prominent in the 1600-1700s, though its lasting influence is evident in modern design as well. When you think of Baroque architecture, picture the Palace of Versailles or St. Peter’s Basilica. Although this style varies from region to region, it is primarily known for being theatrical, with bright colors, irregular shapes, and dynamic composition. Designing a building in this style gives architects the opportunity to experiment with lighting and ornate detailing. Some of the Baroque influences can be seen in the sprawling arches and intricate detail of the Villa Tatiana.

Roman

You know what they say — Rome wasn’t built in a day, probably because its architecture is so complex and refined. Although this style was first born in 400BCE in the grand city of Rome, it continues to grace modern construction, such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Jefferson Memorial, and the White House. Buildings modeled after the Roman style feature exquisite arches and polished vaults, like the Villa Adele located on the Amalfi Coast. Furthermore, this architecture was the first of its kind, introducing basic engineering concepts to the world.

Greek

The Greeks are among the original inventors when it comes to architecture. Though their engineering skills were not up to par with those of the Romans, their designs have inspired hundreds of generations of architects. The Greeks invented three distinct column styles, also known as orders: the Doric order, the Ionic order, and the Corinthian order. Villa Marina, located on the serene island of Zakynthos, incorporates these iconic columns.

Postmodern

Postmodern architecture is all about breaking tradition and embracing change. This movement began in the 1960s when many architects were experimenting with design. Known as PoMo for short, it screams, “Anything goes!” There are no confining elements in this style. If it looks wacky, yet radiates an edgy design, it’s PoMo. To get a better idea of this style, visit the Portland Building, the MIT Stata Center, or Villa Grandioso.
